The most challenging part of being an employee is the adaptation and adjustment stage once get hired into a new job. There’s a new workplace, new people to meet and get to know, an unfamiliar company setting, new rules and regulations, and a new role or job to take part in.

With that, the development of an employee is one of the responsibilities of the Human Resources or HR department of the company. The HR department and/or professionals aren’t only accountable in conducting interviews, and briefing of the applicants or candidates for the vacant position – they’re more than that.

Thus, this article gives a pinprick of clarification on how important it is for a new hire to be guided properly by the HR professionals. The following pages state the different key points of how the HR department must take the role of nurturing the skills not only of the regular employees but most primarily that of the new hires.

  • The HR department is responsible for encouraging new hires to participate in different employee development activities

It’s innate for the new hires to feel outcasted in their first month in the company or so. And the human resources department must uplift their spirits at work by making them feel that they matter – that they also serve as a piece of a puzzle in the company.

The HR department is the ones responsible for encouraging new hires to participate in a variety of employee development activities. Through that, the new hires may learn and expand their knowledge one step at a time.

The HR department is also responsible for the new hires to let know that they play an important role in the overall growth and progress of the company.

  • The HR department identifies the training needs of the new hires

One more significant role of the HR department is that they’re capable of identifying or tracking down the needs of the new hires. These needs may about nurture their on-hand knowledge and skills, boost work performance, improve as an individual and more.

  • The HR department is liable for conducting personal development training or programmes accordingly

Since the new hires are most probably taking their time adjusting to a new workplace and a new job, the HR department is liable for keeping them in line with their jobs. And that’s done by conducting reasonable personal development training and/or programmes subsequently.

The HR management encourages both the trainers or coaches as well as the participants to do a two-way communication to make the training more meaningful. This is also done to make the new hires feel comfortable stating their ideas or opinions throughout the discussions.

Though the said development activities don’t always refer to organising training, seminars, programmes, and/or conferences. A simple lunch out or get together is also done as a solution by the HR department.

  • The HR department takes part in improving the on-hand talent and/or skills of the new hires

As long as the new hires step foot on the company premises, the HR department takes part in enhancing their abilities or skills. With that, the possibility of improved job performance is highly expected in where both the new hires and the company may benefit shortly.

  • The HR department is accountable for providing HR services in an efficient and effective way

Aside from hiring and assessing job applicants, HR professionals also must effectively and efficiently take part in providing HR services. The HR services cover employees’ benefits, hiring and assessing job candidates, even firing, payroll, and staying up-to-date with the following state and federal tax laws.

What do HR services have to do with the development of the new hires? If an HR professional, or so to say, if the whole department, can take their roles effectively and efficiently, there would be an absolute level of employee satisfaction – this is applied to both regular and new hire employees.

It’s because each of the inclusions in HR services may have an impact on the general progress of the company and the overall growth of the workforces.
