Who loves Pizza?
Did you say Pizza? SWEET!
There is a lot of speculation of what types of pizza to try and eat, and as every human knows, there are so many worldwide to choose from! You would be quite surprised to know that there are probably more than an umpteenth thousand kinds to taste and try, but let’s get started with one in particular; Green Lantern Pizza!
Let’s talk history first. It’s interesting, I promise
A little history before we get to the goods; as we know, pizza originated from Italy, but the idea itself came from the 6th century BC, by the Greeks; they used flatbread as a plate and added toppings on it before it was baked. In the 16th century, Italy had gotten tomatoes imported from Mexico and Peru all throughout Spain; at this time it was the first ornamental plant that at the time people thought to be venomous. In the 7th century, Mozzarella cheese was made from the milk of water buffalo and then imported to India to Campagna.
In Naples of 1889, Queen Margherita went with her husband on an inspection. She saw peasants eating flatbread that was called “pizza”. This piqued the Queen’s curiosity and she asked her guards to bring her a slice. She liked it so much that she summoned the Chef, Raffaele Esposito to bake a few selections for her. He made a special pizza using tomato, mozzarella cheese and basil (the colors of the Italian Flag, red/white/green). She loved it so much, that this became a trend called “Pizza Margherita” and became a sensation across Italy.
During WWII, some veterans came from Italy from a campaign, where they were first introduced to the native cuisine of pizza. Ever since it became a hit that chains opened in Canada and the United States. (Whew!)
Now for the good stuff: Ingredients
Cheese come from the farms of happy cows, usually handcrafted with the knowledge of proper handling of preparations from beginning to the end. Green Lantern Pizza always uses fresh ingredients, as “ the fresher it is, the better it is.” Their pizza has a certain amount of vitamin K which helps blood clots and bone health. Fresher pizzas means the vitamins from the veggies are preserved at best. Frozen pizza has freezing risks in destroying the nutrition of the vegetables that are toppings, but they are still edible, of course; just something to think about.
If you’re a vegetarian and you enjoy lots of toppings on a pizza,You will love the vegetarian options available to the fullest, just get it stuff with lots of veggies, or go with the vegetarian pizza! You’ll still get full knowing you’re still getting that great amount of toppings as usual, you know, the healthier way! Green Lantern believes in health, and it’s okay to have a few slices of pizza in your diet.
Now for some toppings.
Vegetarian pizza is full of veggies, not only that, those vegetables are mostly with water and not a lot of carbohydrates in them. Cool, right? Now some pizzas with meat, or all pizzas with meat for the matter, can be loaded with all kinds of fats and empty calories. The scariest part is that trans-fat, the unhealthiest kind to ever get in your system. Why? High Cholesterol, anyone?
And if you think pizza is at its best at meat counterpart then you should know that you get all the major nutrients like Calories, Fat, Satfat, Protein, Carbohydrate, and more. Flavours that you will never forget after trying once.

Did You Know Cheese?
In school we learned that cheese has a great source of protein for the muscles, body repair and that it gives great boost of energy. It’s got all the amino acids needed for you! And every time your heart beats, the body loses that protein as well as the muscle movement. The point here, is that cheese on a pizza is needed to help your body function more properly. No matter how it is taken, researchers say that 3 cups of cheese is great for the human body.
Cheese also has fiber in it, and a slice from Green Lantern gives 3.2 grams of it, especially if the crust is whole wheat. Your cholesterol lowers for keeping your heart beating as healthy as ever. Not everyone gets their recommended dose of fiber, some may, as there are other ways to gain it: beans, green veggies, cereals, whole grain, etc. Without fiber, you’re likely to gain personal problems like constipation.
Cheese Cont.
As the history tells, Mozzarella is by far the most popular cheese to ever find on a pizza. For those watching themselves or lactose and tolerant to some degree, there’s even fat free and part skim without feeling like you cheated yourself. There’s two types of Mozzarella:
Whole-Milk: 85 calories, 6 grams of fat, 3.7 grams of saturated fat.
Part-Skim: 72 calories, 4.5 grams of fat, 2.9 grams of saturated fat.
As you can see, there are quite a few differences about the mentioned cheese, but the choice is entirely up to the consumer.
Many choices to choose from, give them a try!
This may not be for everyone, and I understand that, but if you want to still be able to eat your favorite foods and looking to try something new, then this would be a good change. If you don’t like restaurants, you can always try making your own and still be mindful like Green Lantern when it comes to health. Be creative!
