Children Who Steal the Show: 8 Tips to Dress Them in the Happy Way

Must read

Clothes have a way of making a lasting impression on everybody you meet, right?

So hear me out! I know your kids are already cute and adorable, but what if you had a way to make them the cutest?

Dressing them up in certain ways, depending on the occasion, would definitely make them all the more popular amongest the crowd.

I’ve always said this and I will keep saying it, most kids are not interested in looking amazing, or showing their clothes and jewellery off. All they care about is their comfort, if they’re able to run around, and if they feel free.

Naturally, there will be a battle when you try to dress your kid, but it doesn’t have to be!

Okay, I’m going to get to the point directly. So here’s what you do:

  1. Avoid Overdressing

Children look their best when they’re put together and aren’t forced to do so. You’ll be able to find various comfortable clothes online as well, that your kids would love to wear. If your baby girl is going to be attending her first wedding, you could have her dress up in a cute pink dress. You could also find something you like on those websites that offer coupons for high priced clothes. In a way, I also believe that overdressing can be something that hinders with the fun that children want to have. So even if it’s a wedding you’re attending, let your child be in sweatpants if he/she wants to do that!

  1. Get Their Opinions

Your children must have a say in what they’re going to wear. You must make them feel like their opinion matters. They’re not little dolls that you can just dress up and be happy with it. If you really want to control what they wear, then you can give them a few pre-picked options that they can decide from. For older kids, you will have to trust their decision and only give opinions.

  1. Comfort Triumphs

Kids love to run around, don’t they? Whatever occasion it is that you’re attending, you must remember to pick out clothes which allow them to run and have fun. The fabric should be breathable and sweat absorbing. If you have a little girl, then can her dress let her twirl, run, and swing in it? Clothes that are lightly stitched or have a lot of buttons on it, is definitely a bad option. As good as white looks for all those special occasions, it’s easy to spoil them, which is why whites are a no-no.

  1. Let the Colours Pop

Occasion or not, pinks, peaches, corals, and pastels look super cute on those tiny clothes that fit children’s bodies. Oh but wait, these tones are the ones you pick for a day event. If you’re going to be attending a night-time event, then you could go for shades of yellows, teals, reds, and turquoise. The classics, black and white, are always an option, but why not let the kids personalities pop with beautiful and unique colours?

  1. Weather Appropriate

As adults, we are at the liberty of leaving our overcoats behind for a long night of partying, but when it comes to our kids, that option disappears. Kids need to be kept safe from the cold or the heat. So for unpredictable weather, keeping extra pairs of clothing in the car or a handbag would work the best. If you’re attending a summer function during the day, make sure that your child isn’t sweating excessively or get sunburns.

  1. Teach Patience

It is a must that you teach your kids about remaining patient. Dressing them up can already be a hassle, and the whole situation becomes worse. You must also remember that children are not intentionally trying to be a problem, they just might be feeling sensitive to certain things. When you are patient with them and teach them to do the same, your task will become easier, and your child will end up looking pretty as a plum! Their contentment due to their decision will show on their face making them look even nicer!

  1. Add Layers

When you add layers to your kid’s clothes, things become easier. You can change up their dressing at any point of the outing. Even as adults, layering makes you stand out, so it has to work on kids as well. The plus point with layering is that in case your child spills something on their clothes you can easily clean it. If it’s hot, you can add thinner layers of clothes, just to add volume and style to the look.

  1. Let them Be

I understand that this one might be a little tough to follow through, especially because kids tend to have an uncanny sense of fashion. Weird because it’s not the way we dress, that’s all. Trust me, just once, let them wear whatever they want to. No matter how ridiculous they look according to you, or how under-dressed or overdressed they are for the event you are attending. Their happiness is going to be a huge contributor in their final look.

Today’s kids know all about fashion, probably more than their parents as well. They are very opinionated and expect that things be done their way.

You must have heard the saying, “My way or the highway.” I think kids are the best example that this phrase suits on.

If their demands are not met, they get cranky, maybe lay on the floor and start crying, or just throw tantrums your way.

Instead of going through this huge trouble, and forcing them to do something they don’t want to do, you could try convincing them why they should do it. Reasoning is a great way to communicate and put your point forth in such a way that kids listen to you.

I hope this article helped you and that you and your child can be yourself at every event you attend in the years to come, shine with all the confidence and happiness!
